Job description

Job DescriptionIntroduction:The Shell Downstream Analytics and Reporting Competence Centre (ARCC) deliver critical Reporting & Analytics capabilities across most of the businesses and processes in Shell Downstream (DS), sitting in the heart of the “Downstream Engine”. While a proportion of that work is traditional MI and reporting, we are seeing an increasing need for more advanced and real-time analytics. We believe that too much corporate IT “just happens” in to existence, often with an eye only for technical considerations. We want to turn this around and build a reputation for good design, solid aesthetic, and highly useable products. Our teams build applications used by tens of thousands of internal staff per day, and we work with massive, real time datasets spanning the globe using an ever changing mix of technology – front end/visualization tools, connectors, data pipelines, and “big data” back end/stores. Each of these has “features” which can be used in various ways. Taking steer from business stakeholders (“why”), architects (“what”) and developers (“how”), the Platform Capability Engineer defines “how” these features are to be used in Analytics and Reporting projects in Downstream, tests them and defines the standards, constraints/boundaries and best practice for each item, then trains and supports the rest of the organization in their use, through both formal training sessions and by working on day to day projects. The most successful engineers are collaborative, working well with vendors and internal teams of technical experts, stakeholders, and architects to cut straight to the most valuable innovations. They understand how these innovations will be used, and apply broad experience and standardized patterns to ensure that testing is both thorough and risk based in order to get the best for Shell. With a natural curiosity, they’re highly driven, often with a consultant background.RequirementsRequirements Purpose and Accountabilities

  • Challenge and advise – when working on projects, the best engineers are partners and consultants, not just executors of process.
  • Deliver face to face, recorded, ad-hoc and personal training and support to peers, managers and others.
