The Senior Database Administrator is primarily responsible for ensuring the stability, security and continued operability of the company’s database servers and environment. They support and assist Bracket IT in troubleshooting and optimizing application performance from the database perspective, as well as ensuring all policies, procedures, and other required documentation related to databases is complete

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Note: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs daily system monitoring, verifies the integrity and availability of database resources, reviewing system and application logs, verifies completion of scheduled jobs
  • Performs regular security monitoring to identify possible vulnerabilities
  • Performs and monitors backup operations, ensuring databases are backed up successfully
  • Investigates and troubleshoots system administration issues
  • Repairs and recovers from database failures and coordinates and communicated with impacted departments and personnel
  • Reviewing service related reports (e.g: database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis.
  • Act as the point of contact for security events analysis, correlation and response.
  • Drives modernization initiatives including upgrades and migration to the cloud
  • Support and enhance existing data repositories and reports using SQL Server and 2005, Transact SQL, MS Reporting Services, and Crystal Reports.
  • Participate in all phases of data management from data modeling, warehouse and cloud design, testing, release management and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with the IT team on the appropriate database designs to support the various systems that serve the company.
  • Develop, implement, administer, and maintain policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company databases.
  • Resolve database performance and capacity issues, and replication and other distributed data issues and suggest ways to improve performance on each.
  • Make recommendations on efficient database designs (data types, stored procedures, functions, etc.).

Do you have the right background for this job?

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field
  • Expert in Microsoft SQL Server administration
  • 5+ years’ experience with RDBMS concepts, languages, tools and technologies
  • Experience in a modern software development environment that is Agile and incorporates DevOps practices
  • Knowledge of Data Warehousing and Microsoft Reporting Tools (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, PowerBI)
  • Experience in performance tuning and optimization using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Good understanding of HA, DR Databases and storage technologies such as data replication.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing and supporting cloud based architectures.
  • Expert skills in Structure Query Language (SQL).
  • Exposure to Oracle and MySQL is preferred
  • Strong communication skills needed to articulate and justify proposed policies or security changes to the environment.
  • Strong organization, analytical, problem-solving and presentation skills.
  • High degree of self-motivation and attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new skills, procedures and approaches.
  • Must be flexible on work hours.
